Veranda UnVeils the House of Windsor
INVITES YOU TO EXPERIENCE
A NEW KIND OF HOME

I have renovated and decorated three houses over the last eighteen years. I learn something new with each project—mostly, just how much there is to know to get it right. As much as I love my new house, there are little things that bother me: My kitchen shelves are a bit too thin, the shades in my son’s bedroom are too stiff. I’ve always admired what professional designers do (after all, I’ve devoted my career to covering their work), but nothing makes me appreciate their efforts more than attempting them on my own.

That’s why I’m so thrilled to introduce The House of Windsor, Veranda’s first-ever concept house (page 130). I watched this project go from a construction site to an absolutely gorgeous and livable home in a matter of months. It is a tribute to the designers, whose talent and knowledge made this happen, and to the power of design.

We partnered with designer Windsor Smith, who dreamed up a Los Angeles house that’s full of surprises: an entryway that doubles as a dining room, a master suite that makes those rushed morning moments a pleasure, a family room where everyone can hang out but do their own thing. Her architecture encourages happier living. We were also lucky enough to have designers Candace Barnes, Stephen Block, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Peter Dunham, Richard Hallberg, Kathryn M. Ireland, Paul Robbins, Richard Shapiro and Tara Shaw join the project. The result is an intersection of sophisticated execution and heartfelt ideas.

We wish every one of you could have visited The House of Windsor to see for yourself, but for those of you who couldn’t, we’ve devised several other ways to experience it: a 360-degree video tour on VerandaUnveils.com that allows you to scan and “move” through each room; an enhanced edition of the October issue through Zinio.com, including video interviews with each designer; and, finally, for those of you who would like to have a piece of The House of Windsor in your own home, a special VERANDA sale, September 21–24, on OneKingsLane.com, featuring select items from the house. Happy shopping!
